OVERVIEW

The island nation of the ‘Maldives Island’ officially known as the Republic of the Maldives lies in the Indian Ocean-Arabian Sea area. Not more than 6ft above sea level it consists of 26atolls strayed within Minicoy and Chagos. The clean air, pleasant weather, blue waters and mesmerizing greenery are probably the four reasons for making the country, a most sought-after tourist destination all over the world. The crystalline white sands along with the beauty of tall palm trees blend so perfectly with blue waters and sky, making one fall in love with it. The extra-ordinary scenery of the islands has made the nation one of the best recreational diving destinations of the world.

Diving, surfing, spas and the infamous ninety resort-islands are probably few first things that one comes across in the Maldives. Here private resorts on Islands posses their own 'house reef' functioning as a coral garden along with acting as a natural aquarium for scuba divers such as Baros Island Resort ,Cocoa Island Resort , Kurumba Maldives and others. The On-island shops exhibit a wide range of products including souvenirs and artifacts along with the offer of recreational activities such as aerobics, volleyball and table tennis. No wonder the island nation is known to be one the most romantic locations for the honeymooners.

The islands attracts millions of divers every year with its rich flora and fauna including tens of thousands of reefs and species of fish and hundreds more species of other marine life. The divers can carry their own equipment; however, the centers offer a wide variety of rental equipment as well. With surfing emerging as the fastest growing water sport in the country, the country witnesses and encourages surfers across the world. The country holds the most important surf event, the annual ÓNeill Deep Blue Contest, which attracts tourists worldwide.

Owing to its unique location, at the crossways of the Indian Ocean shipping lanes on the main seaway around the Indian subcontinent, the Maldives becomes a rendezvous point for African, Arab, Malay and Indonesian mariners, thereby, shaping the country’s food, music and dance. For instance, Bodu Beru is the most popular form of music and dance in the country, originally introduced in the early 19th century by African slaves.

With well connected airways, the scenic beauty of Maldives invites nature-lovers, beach-lovers and surfers across the world, baiting them with the delicious delicacies.
